In the fall of 2008, L'Art met on a monthly basis. At the request of Heather (Director of Children's Ministries), L'Art stenciled denim bags with simple decorative symbols. The bags were custom-made by some talented volunteer seamstresses. These bags are now filled weekly with crayons and coloring sheets. Families with young children can pick one up on the way into Worship on Sunday mornings. This helps keep children occupied so that they can experience worship with their families while keeping distraction to other worshippers at a minimum.
The next month, L'Art went on a field trip to a neighboring church. The congregants of this church had contributed their original works of art, in a variety of mediums, to create a display celebrating the extravagance of God's gifts.
The outing concluded with a lunch at which we finalized our Mission Statement.
The Liturgical Art Team strives to:
Enhance our experience of God through visual art;
Make visible the glory of God;
Encourage all people to develop their creative gifts;
Serve as an artistic resource to the congregation.
